Amazing Member: Laurie Jasper

By Arden Hills

I started training Laurie Jasper in the fall of 2008 and, over that time, she has made a dramatic improvement. Laurie started out training twice a week for a half-hour in which she could perform 12 pushups on her knees, no chin ups, and 24 squats in a minute. Currently she participates in three one-hour long women with weights classes and two private half-hour sessions a week. Her commitment to improve herself is inspiring to the other women she trains with as well as our coaching staff. Laurie can now perform one full chin up, 30 full range of motion pushups on her toes, and 60 squats in a minute (that’s one per second!). Her dedication and hard work stands out among the class and is the primary reason she was voted the Arden Hills Strength & Conditioning Spotlight Member. Congratulations Laurie!

With four children (all girls) under the age of 10, Laurie doesn’t have much time to herself. However, when she does get some time, she enjoys taking in the sun by the pool (while her girls take swimming lessons), playing tennis with her friends, enjoying massages and treatment in the spa, and working out in the Strength & Conditioning facility. A passionate runner, a few years ago she ran the San Diego Rock and Roll Marathon. Laurie loves to cook and enjoys the occasional Corona beer on the weekends. Her newfound passion is playing poker. “My husband, Kevin, introduced it to me a few years ago,” she says. “I always like trying to win more than my husband or at least not lose as much.”

Laurie’s fitness advice includes the following: “I think trying a lot of different things and staying with the ones you like is important. I also think sticking to a schedule is key.   With all the curveballs that come at me every day with little kids, I’ve found keeping my workout schedule consistent has kept me sane.”
