Amazing Member Jane Grossman
An Arden Hills member for more than two years, Jane Grossman is still making a commitment to her healthy lifestyle. She enjoys the numerous fitness classes offered here and understands the benefit of intense and challenging workouts. She stands by the philosophy of constantly challenging the body in different forms as the method of experiencing the best results. This style of working out has let her lose 10 to 15 pounds, as well as dramatically increase strength and endurance.
Grossman enjoys many kinds of activities and explains that she is “game for most outdoor activities.” Th ese include golf, sailing, hiking, running and swimming. She spent an impressive fi ve years with her husband, Ken, on a 34-foot sailboat and sailed from Chicago to Central America and back. She ended up writing a book called Windshifts about their sailing adventures.
When Grossman is not exercising and staying active, she enjoys taking a “mini vacation” by the pool. She also participates in a women’s weekly golf group. She feels that exercise and wellness is a very important component in a person’s life. She was always a very active person, but 10 years ago she was diagnosed with breast cancer. This life-changing event made her realize that each day is a gift. She is grateful to be able to “run, jump and play.” Her health and wellness is more important to her than ever and she has set a goal of living to be 100, while always staying active. An important component to health and wellness, which she discusses, is eating right. She and her husband are focused on eating whole, natural food and have “purged junk food and highly processed food from their
diet.” She offers this advice to anyone not making time to exercise. “It may be hard at first to start something new and push out of that comfort zone, but take it one step at a time and you’ll find you get strength quickly. Just keep doing and it will become a new habit. The results will come and you will feel better!”
Jane Grossman is a truly amazing example of someone dedicated to health and wellness. “A journey of a thousand miles begins with one step,” she says and explains this quote in great detail by saying that when a situation or challenge is too overwhelming, it’s far easier to break it down and focus on one step at a time. “Each step completed gives you strength and encouragement to take the next step. Before you know it you will reach your goals!”
