Workout Wednesday Tip: Makeover Your Breakfast
Running out the door mach speed on your way to work without a healthy breakfast can lead to skipping breakfast entirely or grabbing a doughnut or fat laden breakfast sandwich on the way to your desk. After 10 plus hours overnight without food, your body needs to refuel its glucose levels. Without a healthy breakfast, your brain and your muscles will not have the energy they need to sustain activity throughout the day. Studies show that people who have poor breakfast habits usually feel more tired, irritable and restless in the morning hours, whereas people who eat a healthy breakfast have a better attitude toward work, higher productivity and are better equipped to handle tasks involving memory and concentration. Eating breakfast has even been associated with weight control because you don’t feel the need to snack on empty calories throughout the day to elevate your blood sugars.
Incorporating lean protein in your breakfast can dull your feelings of hunger longer than cereal and is the most satiating of breakfast options. Try egg whites, peanut butter on an apple, or fruit and cottage cheese to start your day off right!
