Workout Wednesday Tip: Go Nuts!!

By Arden Hills

The food we eat should be nutrient dense in order to help our bodies operate at the highest level possible. It is important to recognize that some foods, such as nuts, are more nutrient rich than others. Nuts, for the calories they contain, are packed with important nutrients, including the good polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats, dietary fiber, as well as vitamins and minerals. A handful of nuts makes a great snack on the go and can be incorporated into most meals.

FYI:  An ounce of plain nuts contains between 160 to 200 calories and about 13 to 20 grams of fat. While nuts are relatively high in fat, it’s important to note that they many varieties are also low in saturated fat.

I keep a bag of almonds in my desk drawer and nibble on a couple here and there whenever I feel drained of energy or in need of a snack. They are the perfect pick-me-up and a healthy one too!
