Workout Wednesday Tip: Try Fruit First!

By Arden Hills

Reaching for a snack is something that most of us experience on a somewhat regular basis. Eating in between meals is a great way to help with appetite and weight control while at the same time elevating nutrient intake and boosting your blood sugars. Here is the catch—not all snacks are created equal. Reaching for a doughnut, a handful of candy, or a bag of chips as opposed to an apple is going to not only affect your waste line, but it is also going to deprive you of valuable vitamins that your body needs to function at an optimal level.

Before you snack on a packaged or unhealthy item, think “fruit first!”.  Grabbing a banana, orange, handful of berries, etc. will save you plenty of unwanted calories, and keep you feeling full longer than a cookie. If you don’t think a piece of fruit is going to stave off hunger pains, try putting a small amount of almond butter on an apple to get you to your next meal.
