Diet Affects Prostate Health

By Arden Hills

According to a study recently published in the Journal of Human Nutrition and Dietietics, a diet high in fruits and vegetables and low in red meat may play an important role in the prevention of prostate cancer. Some foods that stood out as exceptional are: cauliflower, broccoli, tomatoes, and green tea.  The most problematic culprits were: highly processed and charcoaled meats and high-fat dairy.

Couple this with an early study (2007) from the Journal of the Cancer Institute that showed a link between the consumption of refined carbohydrates (white bread, white rice, etc.) and cancer tumors in the prostate.

This reinforces other health-promoting strategies that recommend a greater consumption of fruits, vegetables, whole grains and legumes (beans, peas, lentils) and less (or no) consumption of red meat and refined carbohydrate products.
